Post-Operative Care Instructions:
Bunionectomy or Lesser Toe Procedures

 
Infection:
  • Infections are unlikely, but can occur from reactions to the sutures, the pins, or if there is an impingement of the circulation. If you see red streaks going up to your leg, have a high fever, or see an unusual amount of redness, report this to the office immediately.
Pain Management:
  • Most people require pain medications after surgery. Prescriptions will be provided for you on discharge. Take your pain medication as directed. If you need a refill, call the office during working hours: Monday-Friday 8:30-12:00 Noon for the same day refill. Calls received after noon may be answered the next working day. Prescription refills cannot be filled after hours (weekends, holidays, and after 5:30 PM).
Follow-up Appointments:
  • Call as soon as possible to schedule a follow-up visit.
When to call your Doctor:
  • Fever over 101 degrees, chills.
  • Drainage from the wounds that has increased or changed in color.
  • Severe foot or ankle pain.
  • Very dark blue, black, or white discoloration of the foot and/or toes
  • Redness in the foot, leg, or calf.
  • Chest pain or difficulty breathing.
