Post-Operative Care Instructions: Arthroscopy
|
Activity:
- Keep your knee elevated for the first 1-2 days after surgery.
- When up and walking, please put partial weight on your foot and partial weight on the crutches.
You may gradually progress to less weight bearing on the crutches as your symptoms allow.
- Start exercises as instructed, including straight leg raises, and quadriceps setting.
Do 10-20 times each 3-4 times a day.
Showering and wound care:
- Keep the dressing clean, dry, and intact at all times. You may remove the dressing in 2-3 days and cover with Band-aids.
Pain Management:
- Prescriptions will be provided for you on discharge. Take your pain medication as directed. If you need a refill, call the office
during working hours: Monday Friday, 8:30 AM 5:00 PM. Prescription refills cannot be filled after hours
(weekends, holidays, and after 5:00 PM)
Follow-up Appointments:
- Call as soon as possible to schedule a follow-up visit for 7-10 days after surgery.
When to call your Doctor:
- Fever over 101 degrees, chills.
- Drainage from the wounds.
- Severe foot or ankle pain.
- Redness in the foot, leg, or calf.
- Chest pain or difficulty breathing.
